And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. Luke 2:6-7
It was a quiet birth, very normal. However, there had never been a baby shower. So the clothing for the child was minimal and basic. Because of the last-minute trip, the father hadn’t even had the time to get a crib together. But He was here, He was healthy, He was incredible, and, as any mother would claim, He was perfect. Mary and Joseph gazed at their newborn. Joseph drew his finger down the soft cheek. Mary clutched the child’s fingers in hers. The intimacy of this moment will be etched into history. It is the birth that changed the world. It is the birth that can change a life. And how did the Father feel? “You are my Son, whom I love; with You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22b NIV
Father, thank You for this night. Help me to remember it’s not about all the stuff I’ve done this month. It’s about the love You have given me through Your Son. It’s about a relationship You desire with me. It’s about You. I love You. Amen
Twenty-Fourth-Day Activities
Jesus is here! Be sure to place Him in the stable in His bed. Surround Him with His family. Tuck Him in for the night.
If you have never attended a Christmas Eve service at your church, you might consider starting this year. There are usually many services on this night. See what will work best for your schedule and attend. Let the joy of the season soak into your soul; let the love of the Christ child penetrate your heart.
Be aware of those around you at work, and check to see if they will be alone Christmas Eve. If they don’t have any family, ask them to come with you to the service. If you know someone in your church who can’t drive, see if you and your family can pick them up to go to the Christmas Eve service.
Tonight after everyone is in bed or settle down, write a note to Jesus and thank Him for the many blessings you have received this season.
