Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 NLT
Have you ever been so tired you feel like it’s hard to take a breathe? So sleepy that you could lay down on a concrete floor and fall asleep instantly? Have you every been so tired of the same old thing, day after day and nothing ever seems to change?
I have. God told us we would become tired and weary. Even the best of the best will fall exhausted. So why are we surprised when it happens to us?
Maybe it’s because we aren’t looking for the wind current. Maybe we’re trying to fight the wind, instead of letting it help carry us.
The other day I was outside and noticed that the sky was a deep blue and the wind was gently blowing. I happened to look up and saw a hawk soaring overhead. What a beautiful picture God gave me at that moment. As I stood watching him circle and search the ground, I realized that he never flapped his wings. He was riding the wind current in his feathers.
Then I thought of the scripture in Isaiah where God tells us that we will soar high on wings like eagles. But did you know that an eagle is a very weak flying bird. So why would God tell us we would soar like them?
Eagles are weak flying birds because their wing span is so large. They can’t go a long time flapping their wings without becoming exhausted. So God helped them by giving them the sense to use the air currents for them to soar on. Those mighty wings will catch the current to lift them to great heights. They are great birds because they use the wind for help.
As I watched the hawk, I came to the understanding that God had blessed us with the same ability to soar. He gives us His Spirit. He wants us to be with Him in Spirit and to let Him do the navigation. He wants to lift us to new heights, to ride with Him through life and glow with the enjoyment of being in a relationship with Him.
Today, this moment, how are you going to start to catch the wind in your life? You might try looking up in the concordance in the back of your Bible the word ‘Spirit’ and read the scriptures you find about Him. You might like to read the first few chapters of Acts, when the Spirit started working in all the people and building His church. Most of all, you might ask Jesus to pour His Spirit into you. Ask Him to introduce you to His Spirit. He is so excited to share with You, He will bless you like never before.
He would love to take you on a soaring trip and show you the wonders of His love!
Jesus,
I want so much to be with You. I want to do whatever You ask. I want to know and love You more each day. I thank You for this time, this Lenten season, where You ask me to be in this rich relationship with You. Thank you for not giving up on me, for Your constant encouragement and Your love. You are my King and I am blessed.
Amen
