When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. “Do not come any closer,” the LORD warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. Exodus 3:4 NLT
Can you imagine what it must have been like? To be called into ministry in that fashion? He’s just tending the flock, minding his own business, when he sees the burning bush and goes to investigate.
Then the bush speaks and begins one of the most famous relationships in all history. God called Moses to fulfill a job.
It wasn’t all that easy for Moses. He felt inadequate, not educated in the ways of public speaking and had left Egypt out of fear of prosecution.
With all these feelings, and after a lengthy debate with God, he finally left to free God’s people. However, the outcome was not promising. Things went from bad to worse for the nation of Israel. The work load increased and the help was diminished. What’s more, the Jewish people saw Moses as the cause. They wanted him to go away. They wanted to stay in the comfort of their slavery.
Moses wanted to go back to the way things were also. He didn’t like being placed in the position of leadership, he continued to feel inadequate and insecure.
Sound familiar? I know there are times that I would like to go backwards or stay where I’m at, instead of following my LORD. Many times I feel inadequate and insecure.
God still calls to you today. He has given you a solution for all your insecure feelings. He has promised to go with you and He will never forsake you, as you do His calling.
He also gave you Jesus. You have the Son of God to accompany you on all your journeys. His Spirit lives within You. He is your tutor, public speaking coach, the best encourager you could ever employ. If you believe in Jesus, you have been saved and He is calling you into your own special ministry.
He didn’t save you just for saving sake. He saved you for a purpose. Just as Moses was called to a ministry, so are you. You also have been called for a very specific reason and in your uniqueness, you are the only one that can fulfill it in your way. Whether it is raising children, working in the board room or loving your neighbor, this is where God wants you.
A word of warning. God’s purpose will not be delayed or set aside as you try to make up your mind. His purpose will go forward and He desperately wants you to go forward with Him. So here is the big question. Have you been hearing God’s call? Has He been nudging You, asking you to take action? I have and although I’m scared to death and unsure of myself, I want to follow my Jesus. I don’t want to miss the blessings of serving the King.
So take courage, find someone who will walk with you. Take that first small step and know Jesus will be right there with you. As it says in Zechariah, Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” Zechariah 4:10 NLT
My Dear Father,
I am so grateful that You have not given up on me. You are constantly encouraging me to move forward. You remind me that You did not give me a nature of insecurity and fear, but a spirit of power, love and self-discipline.
I really want to do what You are asking. I’m not sure which way to turn, but I will trust You to give me the right direction. Help me to listen only to Your voice and not be discouraged by others. As with Moses, I need to learn to depend on You every moment of my day.
I love You my King!
Amen
