When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees. Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:8&9 NLT
The scripture today is not one I generally like to look at, mankind has just opened themselves up to sin and the relationship with the Creator has been severed. However, this scripture has a great treasure hidden within.
The verses before are where Adam and Eve fell for the lies of Satan and ate of the tree of knowledge. The tree that God had specifically said: ‘But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:16&17. NLT
They had fallen from the Grace of God, as I do every day.
What is so sweet about this scripture, is that God was looking for them in the evening, when the work of the day was done, He wanted to be with them. When He didn’t see them right off, He called to them. Even though they had broken His heart, He still wanted to spend some time at the end of the day.
Do you hear God calling, asking you to come to Him in the cool of the evening? Why not spend some time with Him tonight. Watch the sunset and unwind with your LORD. Share your joys and concerns with Him. Slow down and hear Him say, “I love you, my child. You are precious to me.”
As the cross approaches, why not start today putting bookends on your day. Let Jesus surround all your moments, beginning the day with Him and enjoying His presence in the evening. After all, He is the Alpha and Omega!
Father,
Your Word is so wonderful. You are always reminding me just how much You want me. You are calling all through the day and so often I’m not listening. I think I’m so important and I have so many special things to accomplish, I often ask You to wait until I’m done. Then I go straight on to another project. Please forgive me Father, for my arrogance and pride, I don’t want to act that way any longer. I don’t want to hide from You, LORD. I want to stay in plain sight where You can always see me and so I can run to You when You call!
Amen
