Come As You Are

When the banquet was ready, He sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come! Matthew 22:3 NLT

It’s taken me by surprise, this writing business. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought God would bless me in this. I started out writing a devotional for my grandchildren. God started by placing those children in my life, giving me a reason to write and that’s how He jump started me on this path.

So now I’m feeling the ‘nudge’ again and I want the perfect place to write. I did the first book in the kitchen, with grandchildren around, daughter and son-in-law and husband talking, the football game on in the great room.

But now I want the ‘perfect’ place to concentrate and write. So I moved my lap top to a window to look out at my back yard, but nothing happened with the writing.

I painted our office a new color, cleaned out a bunch of stuff and moved into that room. It has a door so I can close it and have peace and quiet, no outside distractions.
I put up the proper pictures around me, surrounded myself with inspiration. Still nothing happened with the writing.

Jesus finally got through to me that I could move all over the house, re-design every room until I found that ‘perfect’ place and it still would not be perfect. He didn’t care where I did the writing, just that I would do it. He didn’t want me to wait any longer to get to His business, He said just do it!

It’s the same way with our relationship with Him. We can try and clean up our lives, make ourselves presentable, have everything just ‘perfect’ before we come to Him or come back to Him. You know what? It will never happen. We will never be ‘perfect’ or have it all together. Jesus will meet you here and now, just as you are. He doesn’t care if the walls are green or blue or even clean. He doesn’t care if you’re surrounded by all the good stuff in life, or the garbage from the years past. He wants you here and now, right now.

We are about half way on our journey to the cross. Lent is all about being with our Jesus, getting to know Him, re-committing our lives to Him.

So how is your journey with Him going? Have you found your spot to meet with Him everyday? Do you look forward to a moment in the morning with Him? Don’t worry about it if you still struggle. We all do, it’s the human part of us and it’s a life time adventure as we grow into Him.

But if you’re still trying to find that ‘perfect’ place, please realize that He just wants you where you are. When He steps into your picture, the ‘perfect’ place really does become perfect!

Jesus has set the banquet table for you, the food is hot and ready, don’t delay, don’t go on about your business and miss the opportunity of your life. Answer His invitation, come as you are. He will welcome you and the joy of living with Jesus will begin. Your life will never be the same!

Jesus,
I want so much to be with you right now. Forgive me for putting You off, thinking I’m so busy, or I’ll do it when I get ‘good’. I realize right now that I’ll never be ready, I will always be busy. I don’t want to go through life another day without Your saving grace and love. I know you are the Son of God, You were crucified and have risen. You are right now sitting at the right hand of God and You are my intercessor. Wash me please with Your blood, bring me close to You. I want to live my life for You and to bring You joy! I love You so much Jesus, I think I may burst!
Amen
