Worship From Your Heart

But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worshipHim that way. John 4:23 NLT

Worship: what does it mean to you?
As a child of God how do you worship or why do you worship?
Do you only worship when you come to church or can you worship at other times?

Our society has taught us that we worship in church on a specific day. It gives us the order and way to worship and we follow without question. We come away saying, “What a wonderful worship service!” We look at worship through our own eyes.

But what if…we put on our spiritual eyes and see how Jesus might like us to worship.

Much to our surprise, worship isn’t about us. It’s about our God. We need to ask ourselves what would He like this day? Does He want me to sing to Him, dance for Him, cry to Him? When we come away from the service we need to ask, “Did You enjoy my worship today? Did You have a wonderful time LORD?”

We also need to remember that we don’t have to be in the church building to worship. I’m not saying that we should give up church, or have the attitude that we can go it alone. We can’t, we need each other, we need to be in church. However, we should be worshiping 24/7, wherever we are.

To worship is to tell our LORD how much we love Him, how we cannot live without Him, and glorifying Him in all we do, wherever it may be! Our way of living should be a form of

worship.

As I was watering my yard one summer, I looked over at the ocotillo and realized they were worshipping God in their own way! Their spires were lifted to the sky, praising God for their part in this world.

Now people will say that’s just what I was thinking, but as I thought about the plants raising their arms to the sky in worship, I actually began to worship God also. I stopped thinking about watering, looked up, and told Jesus what a wonderful day it was, as the beauty of His creation surrounded me, and I lifted His name on high in prayer. I was dressed in yard clothes, probably no make up and I would never have shown up at church looking the way I did. I didn’t care what anyone thought about me, I wasn’t concerned about offending anyone, I was just with my LORD, loving Him!

I remember that day years later and what a joy it was to me.

So as we step one more day closer to the cross, how are you going to worship Jesus?

Take some time now, ask Him what to do, look for ways you can privately worship Him in a public area. We aren’t all called to be street preachers, but we are created to worship and love our God!

Look for ways to worship Him in the elevator or on the way to your office. How about when you’re driving to work, school or to do the shopping? I’ll bet if you look, there will be many ways to personally worship Jesus. He gave His life for you. Can you give Him 5 minutes each day this week to worship Him?

Father,
Forgive me for limiting my worship to You at the times I think are appropriate. Forgive me for thinking my way to worship is the only way. Open my eyes LORD, and show me how You want me to worship, even if it takes me out of my comfort zone. You are my amazing God and it is my heart’s desire to please You in worship!
Amen
