No amount of soap or lye can make you clean. I still see the stain of your guilt. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken. Jeremiah 2:22 NLT
They crop up everywhere, the mirrors, the windows, the shower and the drinking glasses. Unless you live in an area with soft water, at some time in your life, you will probably have to deal with the curses of hard water spots.
So how do we deal with them?
We scrub, scratch, polish and sweat over them. Even when you wipe your dishes immediately the stains still will accumulate.
We purchase products to put in our dishwashers to protect against them. We buy special shower sprays to cut the scum. We even go so far as to install water softeners connected to our plumbing.
All to no avail. The spots are still there. They are still visible at one time or another.
This reminds me of my sin against God.
There are so many ways I try to cover them up or scrub them out. I do good works, I say all the ‘right’ things, I make sure I read the Bible.
You know what? The sin keeps showing up, and until I stop and ask for forgiveness and place my total life in Jesus and trust in His word, my sin will keep showing up. I am not capable of getting rid of my own sin.
Jesus is.
His blood will scrub my sin, the hard water spots and stains of my life, and they will be seen no more. He throws them as far as the east is from the west.
There is one more thing Jesus asks me to do. I need to repent, turn from that sin and do it no more. I can’t do it on my own, but He can. I need to place myself out of harms way and rely on Him to show me how to do it. I need to do my part and then turn it over to Jesus to do His.
Guess what? He will, and you will always be surprised at how it works.
Do you have some hard water stains you need to turn over to Jesus? Are there areas of your life that it seems like you just can’t quit messing up? We all have them. We all need to ask for our Savior’s forgiveness and seek His strength to overcome. Some of these areas may take a life time to change, but through that lifetime, you will be able to draw on His faithfulness and His promise that He will never leave you or forsake you!
There are times that you might feel like giving up on yourself, but Jesus never will!
Jesus,
I am so thankful that you are my King and Savior. You are the scrubber of my life and I take such joy in You. I know there are many, many things I do or don’t do, that hurt You. Help me to realize that when I sin against someone in my life, it’s also a sin against You. I ask that You will point out my sin, that You will guide me through confession, and support me as I change my ways. I thank You for taking me along at pace I can tolerate, but if I need a push, please push. I want so much to live for You and to bring a smile to Your face this day!
Amen
