Love Your LORD

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
1 John 2:15 NLT

Have you ever heard someone say, ‘I love my car…I love my house…I love my computer’?

Unfortunately, the word ‘love’ in our language is used to describe many different feelings. However, this scripture is reminding us, telling us we are not to love the things in this world.

We in the United States are extremely blessed with all our possessions. We are in love with all our things. We are told through the media that we “deserve”, “are en-titled to”, “we are not complete” without all the things of man.

So does that mean we are to have nothing?

Look at it this way; God has blessed you for a reason. All that you possess is His already and should have one purpose: to proclaim the Kingdom of God to a dying world.

You love your car? Use it to deliver meals to shut ins.
Love your house? Use it to share meals with friends.
Love your computer? Use it to share God’s word with others.

These are all tools that the Father has placed in your hands to proclaim His love. You can enjoy your car because you are using it to feed the lonely. You can enjoy your home because you are using it to give shelter and provide a meal for someone in need. You can enjoy your computer because it is a tool to help others come closer to their LORD.

I must confess, I love my computer. I’m a techie and enjoy all things associated with my computer. A new program? I like to dive right in. A new challenge to overcome? Let me at it. So I am always checking myself to make sure that I’m enjoying my computer and it has not become my main focus. Can I shut it down to spend time with my grandchildren? You bet. When my husband asks me to sit and watch a movie with him, can I walk away from what I’m working on? Every time. However, I still know it can become a devotion to me instead of a tool. I want my devotion to be completely and totally Christ.

So I ask you today, what do you love? What in your life do you need to keep in check? Visit with Jesus and ask Him to show you these things. If they are out of control, ask for His forgiveness. Let Him show you how you can use these tools without them becoming your reason for living. Let’s make sure together that our reason for living is to proclaim Jesus as our Savior!

Jesus,
Remind me often today of the many blessings You have given me to proclaim Your word. Whatever I have is Yours already, show me how I can use it to further the glory of Your Kingdom. Let all that I am and all that I have be a blessing to You today!
Amen
